Rolly Tasker sails is proud to introduce our new Lite Skin range of advanced fabrics, designed for cross-cut sails. Lite Skin will produce a very durable sail, with extra resistance against chafe and UV, in a modern look. For best possible shape-holding, top quality for your money and meeting the requirements of performance oriented cruising sailors and club racers.
Crosscut sails are great to shape through the broadseams, have less seams and reduced fabric waste compared to triradial sail constructions and have a clean appearance. The addition of Dimension-Polyant Lite Skin® outer layers protects the film, reduces film shrink over time, offers less water absorption than a traditional taffeta and provides increased chafe protection from film only laminates. The external layer is coated with UVt®, DP’s proprietary UV and anti-microbial finish to increase UV protection while deterring mildew growth. The fabric feels soft hand for good handling and attributes a lighter weight than typcial cruise laminates with taffeta on both sides. Thanks to the characteristics of laminate construction the sails are less sensitive for delaminating, thus longer lasting than membrane sails in particular in high UV stress areas. The Lite and Medium weights are 100% polyester, constructed for smaller boats up to 35 foot. The Heavy version for boats up to 40′ steps up to a aramid scrim for reduced material stretch.
I have used several sails from Rolly Tasker and was always pleased with their construction and performance. Our main and jib for our Lagoon 440 Cat (tall rig) are well-constructed offshore capable sails. Excellent reinforcement and hand sewn chafe leathers. And the sails are priced well below many other options. 60,000 miles later, the mainsail has done its job. Probably could have gotten many more miles out of it if we didn’t sail quite so aggressively. We have had our cruising Cat at speeds in the mid to upper teens, with our top speed of 19.2 knots in 30+kts. I ordered the same sail again and can’t wait for it to arrive. The jib is still performing well, and I expect it will go another 10,000 miles.
Yesterday we went for a shake down sail with the new sails and they look great, we had perfect conditions for testing the staysail with a couple of 20 knot gusts. The only sail we did not try out was the new spinnaker as we decided to wait for lighter winds to try that for the first time. Everything fits perfectly, the sail shapes look fantastic. The sails are excellent, the mainsail particularly is a work of art and has a beautiful shape, so much better than the old one! Please can you pass on our heartfelt thanks to your team at the loft, they have made us some wonderful sails. Thank you very much. See us at YouTube
Having this new sail is totally changing the way that I sail. Reefing the old main was so annoying because the main was all dicey and blown out. So, I would fiddle around with headsails more but I only have three headsails so often I would be either underpowered or overpowered. Now I choose the headsail that most matches the conditions and then use reefing and un-reefing the main as a way to keep my boat balanced. And with this new main I can reef in about five minutes which is just a third of the time of changing a headsail… on this ocean passage I am doing a couple of reef changes of the mainsail every day and every time I do it I am just so grateful. https://www.youtube.com/@WindHippieSailing
