75 Years of crafting the best cruising sails

Easy Reaching. Fun and Fast.

With the right downwind sail, you are always in full control

Do you Rather go by Engine Than by Spinnaker?

For many sailors, light wind and downwind conditions can be frustrating rather than enjoyable. The reasons are understandable.

  • There is no downwind sail on board, or
  • Using the downwind sail is no option because
    • it’s too much effort to set and retrieve,
    • it’s too difficult to control,
    • the crew is against it.

Reaching Sails for Multihulls

Multihulls are ideally suited for downwind sailing, which is where these boats will excel! No wonder, as you have a wide, stable platform for setting a range of sails, which is also easily driven downwind. Typically, modern multihulls will not fly a traditional spinnaker. In fact, multihulls love reaching and will normally not sail dead downwind. And the faster they go, the more the apparent wind will shift forward. It is for this reason that reaching sails are more the order on a modern, fast multihull.

All of our reaching sails and asymmetric spinnakers are also ideal for use on a multihull – which includes the Code Zero and Code C sails.

A sail developed specially for multihulls is the so-called Screecher, which is a hybrid sail that sits between what would be a large Genoa on a monohull and a Code 0 sail.

Everything fits perfectly

Yesterday we went for a shake down sail with the new sails and they look great, we had perfect conditions for testing the staysail with a couple of 20 knot gusts. The only sail we did not try out was the new spinnaker as we decided to wait for lighter winds to try that for the first time. Everything fits perfectly, the sail shapes look fantastic. The sails are excellent, the mainsail particularly is a work of art and has a beautiful shape, so much better than the old one! Please can you pass on our heartfelt thanks to your team at the loft, they have made us some wonderful sails. Thank you very much. See us at YouTube

Well made, easy to operate and a gamechanger

We have ordered a number of Code 0 sails now from Greg and Sam at RTS Australia for both company use and client vessels. The service has been excellent, professional and always a prompt reply. The loft is helpful with meeting production requirements and sails are always delivered on time. For a good quality good value sail you don’t need to look past RTS. After sales support and advise is always forthcoming when needed and Greg and Sam come with a huge amount of hands-on experience which goes a very long way. The Code 0 itself is well made, easy to operate and a gamechanger on all the vessels well have fitted them on.

This Is Our Approach to Downwind Sails

Broad reaching or sailing dead downwind can be slow and frustrating, especially in light airs. When the Genoa is blanketed by the mainsail and the apparent wind drops significantly. But as the sails flap and the boat wobbles along, you can change this! Hoist the downwind sail that suits your boat and crew, and everything will instantly change. Speed will pick up and the boat will be stabilized. We offer a wide range of reaching and downwind sails, not just for racing, but mainly for the true family and cruising sailor.

Ready-Made – the in-stock, affordable option

We also offer some of these sails ready-made from our shelf, in a size to fit your boat. Your advantaged are obvious – lower price and quicker delivery: Ready-made Spinnaker and ready-made Code C

Easy Handling – yes, it’s possible

Some of these sails have specifically been designed with ease of handling in mind, also by a small family crew or even single-handed. We know that a traditional spinnaker, especially in a blow, can be rather awe-inspiring for many not-so-expert crews, and quite rightly so. We designed some alternatives.

Take a look at our Code C sail and the Furling Spinnaker, for example – specially designed by our sail designers for easy yet enjoyable and fast downwind sailing. Set on a dedicated furling system, it can be handled just like a larger Genoa. So, improve your sailing experience and find your downwind turbo-charger!
